Shelfield Community Academy can offer:
A Curriculum which Engages and Inspires
Our personalised traditional curriculum ensures that students are stretched, challenged and engaged. The academy's Curriculum Enrichment and Cultural Entitlement programme ensures that students develop crucial personal, social, health and economic skills, as well as ensuring access to a wide range of educational visits and broader learning experiences outside of the classroom to develop a genuine passion for learning.
Excellent Pastoral Care
The high quality of our pastoral care has been recognised by Ofsted. A caring and supportive atmosphere is provided through our well established pastoral systems and our dedicated Children's Services academy team. A range of effective support systems are in place to ensure that students are safe, happy and successful within the academy.
High Aspirations and High Expectations
As our academy values suggest, there is an emphasis here at Shelfield on high aspirations and an expectation that students are responsible and positive. We have high expectations in terms of standards of uniform, attendance behaviour and learning and parents are supportive in enabling us to uphold these high standards.
Our specialist status in Sports and Literacy enable us to give students access to a huge range of enrichment activities in both areas. Students are trained as sports leaders, experience successes in a range of sporting teams and at KS5 have the opportunity to take coaching qualifications. Additional literacy support is offered to students who require this and students enjoy visits from guest authors, regular theatre visits and even our own in house 'Ghost walk' inspired by Gothic literature.
A Sense of Community
Parents, students and staff work in partnership to ensure that students experience enjoyment and achievement at the academy. We work closely with primary schools ensuring students have a smooth academic transition a range of partnership projects take place. Parents' evenings give parents the opportunity to discuss academic and pastoral progress and half termly progress reports are also shared. Our parent voice group meets termly and a range of community events take place here. We are particularly proud of the support students have offered to local community charities.
Outstanding Facilities and Outstanding access to Future Technologies
A major rebuild here at Shelfield means that students are educated in a stunning environment with world class facilities and resources. Students have access to technology which is second to none. All of our students have access to personal learning devices in order to enhance their learning as well as equipping them fully with the skills required for the 21st Century.
