Here at Ormiston Shelfield we pride ourselves on providing enrichment projects for the students to experience a wide range of activities and trips, that they normally wouldn't have the oppourtunity to experience. Here are a selection of the more recent enrichment activities that have taken place.
Ski Trip 2015
The Milky Way Resort, Italy, was the destination for the Academy Ski Trip this year. With perfect snow conditions, the group of students and staff arrived in Sauze D’oulx with their hotel La Fontaine positioned only a 15 metre walk to the chair lift. Once at the top of the mountain the view was idyllic with breath taking scenery. Students skied the length and breadth of the resort with their own personal ski instructors Lorenzo, Mauro & Marco. Some students even managed to ski over the border and into France. The weather was fantastic all week, as was the food in the hotel and local restaurants with, pizza, tiramisu and ice cream being the pick of the menu. A great trip that will be repeated next year, going to St Anton in Austria. If you are interested in this fabulous trip then please see Mr Drummond & Mrs Lovatt for more details.
Iceland Trip 2015
On the 29th January 2015 36 students left the academy for a trip of a life time to Iceland. We left the Academy at 2.30am and travelled to Luton airport to get our flight. Both students and staff were very excited and wondering what they would see.
When we landed in Iceland we got our coach transfer which took us to Blue Lagoon. This is a Lagoon in southern Iceland that is one of the 25 wonders of the world. The students enjoyed the heated waters of 380C, sauna, steam room and smoothies from the drinks bar. A well-deserved relax after our travels.
The group went on two large excursions of the Golden Circle and the South Shore, with Oli our guide. The Golden Circle took in the sights of the Great Geysir spouting over 30 meters, Hellisheldi Geothermal Plant which heats and powers the country, Volcanoes, the green house village, visit the Gullfoss waterfalls which is one of the most impressive in Europe and ÞINGVELLIR, a remarkable geological site and the most historic site on the island and the meeting of two tectonic plates.
The South Shore Tour took in the sights of the country, visiting the green house village of Hveragerði, views of Hekla and Eyjafjallajökull volcanoes, spectacular waterfalls Seljaiandsfoss and Skogarfoss, Dyr
holaey with magnificent beaches and headland, with huge rocks towering out of the waters and its huge arch of rock (similar to the Giants Causeway in Ireland) with a final visit to the village of Vik.
There was a magical part to the whole trip where we were very lucky to have seen the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). They were very bright and large in the night sky, with the vivid green colour. It was magical to see and topped off with a shooting star through them.
“It was amazing! I will never forget any part of it! My favourite part was the Blue Lagoon with the mud and everyone there! I will never forget the Northern Lights and will never forget the amount of effort and work you’ve done for us Miss Eaton, it’s incredible. Until the next one!” Kian Cushman Yr10.
